AFS Intercultural Programs

Year and Semester:
The school year is divided into five (sometimes six) terms from August to June, with breaks at Christmas and Easter, a one-week sports vacation mid-winter, and the First-of-May celebration. You will study a few courses intensively each term, including Finnish and/or Swedish, math, science, psychology, art, music, sports, history, and geography. Upon arrival in Helsinki, you will meet your host family. About a month into your stay, there will be an arrival and language orientation to help you get a better grasp on the Finnish language and culture.

ASSE International Student Exchange Programs
|
Experience the culture and language as you live with a volunteer host family. A year away can't be measured in days alone. You'll only be gone for a school year, but the experience will enrich the rest of your life. Living in another country for a year is something most people never have the opportunity to do. You'll return with new knowledge, cultural understanding, maturity and lifelong friends from your host country. ASSE programs are offered to you at cost.
